A new campaign by the Ministry of Tourism in Germany will begin at the end of August and run through January-February, with a budget of 10 million shekels that were transferred by the Treasury to the Ministry of Tourism in order to augment the latter’s marketing activities in the European bloc countries.   The new campaign in Germany is intended to increase the number of tourists from there visiting Israel, in continuation of the growth trend in tourism from Germany to Israel that stands at 50% from the beginning of the year.

For the first time in 15 years, the German airline ‘Germania’ will operate two weekly charter flights from Berlin and Dusseldort to Eilat.  The flights will begin in November with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, which will provide a ‘safety net’ for the charter company.  Germany is the third largest source country to Israel from Europe.  In 2007 over 100,000 tourists from Germany visited Israel.  The Ministry of Tourism’s goal is to bring 200,000  German tourists to Israel each year, beginning in 2010.
