The view that unfolds as we travel along Route 40 in the Negev desert, Israel, toward Neot Semadar, is surprising. A copious desert valley spreads out giving way to a fertile oasis with abundant trees, green fields and spectacular exotic buildings. Neot Semadar invites you to its guided tour to find out about this site and the way of life and vision of this
community. What are cooling towers? How is the water recycled here? What are the basic principles of organic farming, of education without competition? And how does this community deal with relationships, and the problems facing man as an individual and as part of society? The tour will visit the Art Center including views from the courtyard, the shop displaying art objects created by artists from the kibbutz, a photographic history of the building, a view of the fields, the orchards and the ecological site from the upper balcony, as well as a visit to one of the various art studios. From here the tour passes the goat pen and the vegetable garden, arriving at the food processing center, which includes the dairy, winery and olive press. In the winery we will hear about wine making in the southern- most winery in the northern hemisphere. You may end up at the Pundak, our roadside restaurant, for a rest and a light meal of organic vegetarian food or just good coffee, home made cakes and yogourt ice cream. The restaurant is also a shop that carries all our organic products grown and made in the kibbutz. This is a very worthwhile, interesting, and enjoyable outing for anyone and everyone visiting or living in Israel and Eilat.
