2008 was the third year in which a ‘cleanest tent' competition was held in Eilat by the Ministry of Environment, Nature Reserves and Parks Authority, and Eilat Municipality.  Some 500 tents participated during this year's holidays, and a family from Be'er Sheva camping on the South Beach won the prize of a year's free subscription to Nature Reserve sites throughout the country.  Guy Alon, manager of the NRPA in the Eilat region, said happily that camping behaviour improves with every year and that this year there were almost no incidents on the South Beach of breaking corals, fishing, or trash, which makes for a nicer camping experience for everyone in the area.   Israel also encourages hotels to be at their best.  While economic incentive and market competition might be motivation enough, there is also the ‘most beautiful hotel’ award offered by the state.  This year’s winner was the Agamim Hotel in Eilat.
