Some 40 flights a week during this winter’s season are expected to bring around 8,000 French tourists to Eilat, as per an agreement between the Isrotel hotel chain and Sun D’Or airlines, an El Al subsidiary company.  One direct flight weekly, with more during holiday periods, will leave and return to the Charles de Gaulle International Airport every Sunday.  The package will include week-long vacation packages at one of the chain’s hotels in Eilat.

Isrotel says that the 'Isrotel Sun Express' package was an innovative idea implemented successfully during last year’s ‘season’ (October - May), even during the slack periods, and believes it will do as well or better this year.  The quality and reliable service provided by both the airline and the hotel chain, they say, makes the holiday package very attractive to French tourists.

The ‘Sun ‘D'Or Isrotel Express' flights serve food, champagne, and gives treats to the children.  Upon arrival in Eilat or Ovda airports, they are met with a reception and delivered to their hotels.  During the peak periods such as Christmas, New Year, or Passover, flights are doubled to meet demand.

Isrotel's general manager, Rafi Sadeh, is optimistic about this season's tourism.  Sadeh says that in November there are 18 direct tourist flights arriving in Eilat from abroad, a 400% jump from last year.  With the global economic crisis, he admits that long-term forecasts cannot yet be made.
