Minister of Tourism Ruhama Avraham-Belila has decided to created a One Stop Shop group for entrepreneurs wishing to build hotels. The group would accompany the process in order to expedite the proceedings so that the new hotel in Israel could open within two or three years like the rest of the world. With the influx of Russian and Chinese tourism that is anticipated, the Minister believes that within two years the country will be 18,000 hotel rooms short of meeting the need. While some 4,000 rooms converted to other uses during the tourism crisis could be redeployed, finding foreign investors to build new hotels is difficult because of all the red tape. The group is meant to circumvent that in order to attract more investment.  Eilat Today wonders if the plan will encourage, or better yet require, adherence to principals of sustainable tourism in construction of the new hotels. |
