Ynet reports that although Shachar Zubari might be only 22 years old and the Olympics in Beijin might be his first, anyone who may have doubted his readiness for the Neil Pryde windsurfing in China got an answer that is victorious and full of optimism.  The young windsurfer began the competition with amazing success, when he finished first in the opening sail this morning (11 Aug.) and was placed at the top of the general ranking, something which gives tremendous hope toward achieving the gold medal.

In the opening sail, Shachar ran a close race with Aichen Wang, who made a good start and led the windsurfers to the point of the third marker.  At this point, Shachar managed to overtake him and maintained his lead to the finish.

Update (11/8 11:30):  While still posting this article, results from the second race became available.   Shachar finished his second race in third place, and thus put himself in first place in the overall ranking after having won the first race in first place.

Shachar started the second sail not well, reaching the first buoy 1.32 minutes after the French contender Julien Bontemps, but he gradually closed the gap and finished the race only 50 seconds after the French winner and 40 seconds after the Greek, Nikolaos Kaklamanakis, who took second place.  Thus Shachar has ensured himself first place at the end of the two sails, standing at a cumulative 4 points.
