About 150 local and international athletes, will compete this weekend, 11-12.11.2011, in an International Rhythmics gymnastics competition, sponsored by the Municipality of Eilat, the Association Council and the "extend a hand for the children of Eilat". 150 female athletes between the ages of 6-15 including about 70 Israeli athletes will participate in the competition for the first time, two of our own local athletes, Vanessa Chipchec [8] and AyaReikeland [9] will also be competing.

Israeli Triathlon Association registered thousands of members aged 8-80. The response to the competition has been enormous, with many world class athletes entering to compete.. Among the thousands of participants expected to take part in the triathlon championship 2011,to be held in Eilat , are Olympic medalist Sven Rider, former European champion .

 87 swimmers and 120 coaches, judges and escorts from 22 countries have reached the southern city. The Organizing Committee approved the request of the Polish Association to participate in the championships, and a Polish swimmer with his trainer landed the day before the championships. The Turkish delegation also landed in Eilat including six swimmers, a coach and a judge.

The city of Eilat will host the European Championship Open Water Swimming, which will take place between 7 - 11 September. Eilat is indeed now officially recognized by the government as a City of International Sport. After the success of the recent European Open Water trials held in Eilat, it was decided that Eilat City will host the European Swimming Championships, with hundreds of swimmers from 40 different countries.

Two Israeli Arab athletes will represent the country at the Special Olympics in Athens this year, for the first time in history. Tennis players Muhammad Kunbar of East Jerusalem and Jafar Tawil from Beit Safafa, both 20, will strive for the gold this week alongside Elad Gevandschnaider, 22, of Be’er Sheva and Tamir Segal, 34, of Katzrin. Close to 150 professional and amateur divers from across the Country, participated in the "Depth Cup 2011" competition, a series of challenging diving tasks held for the 3rd year in Eilat. Diving clubs were invited to send teams on behalf of their club to participate.In addition to the Group competition, a personal contest was also held which examined the performance of each participant individually . Our own Eilat swimmers did extremely well in the recently held Casa Da Brazil swimming competion, Anne Gerom 12 years old, finished in the top 10, swimming at an unbelievably fast pace for her age. Ofek Tamam, 13 years old, finished 3rd place out of 10 swimmers in the 2500m., Twins Maya and Dana Meidnick finished 5th and 6th place in the 2500m, and Idan Shavit finished 6th place in the under 12 category. Very well done to you all!

 The First Leg of the 2011 European Open Water swimming Cup , in Eilat, ISRAEL took place this week, with 19 countries taking part, including South Africa's Nataly Du Toit.
