| The most holy month of the Islamic religion, Ramadan, begins today. During this ninth month of the lunar year, every Muslim believer must fast from dawn until sundown, abstaining from all food and drink. The month of Ramadan is a time for worship, reading the Koran, and performing acts of charity and personal devotion. Some believers spend the last ten days of Ramadan doing a retreat. Sawm, the fasting during Ramadan, is one of the five pillars of Islam. Ramadan will end on Wednesday 1.10.08 with the three-day-long Id el Fitter feast to break the fast.
