 eilatelderlyEilat is on  the list of  the ten safest cities for the elderly. Between the years 2007 to 2009, 5862 elderly people were injured in road accidents in Israel. About 65 percent of them were hit by cars in 41 Israeli cities that were examined, of which 111 were killed, 550 were seriously injured and the rest were lightly injured. . About 45percent of elderly pedestrians were injured, 30 percent as drivers, 20 percent of passenger vehicles and 2.5 percent riders of scooters and bicycles.

 

 

The safest city  for the elderly is Arad, where there is approximately 3,500 elderly living, Followed by the city of Dimona, where some 3,300 elderly people live. Eilat is also rated as a very safe city for the elderly, with a very low rate of  road accidents. . According to Shmuel Abuav, CEO of Green Light, "Aging is a process accompanied by a decline in various skills, including vision, cognition, motor skills, slowed reaction time, difficulty in distributing attention, slowed body movements and decreased muscle strength. Green Light Association have lectures, workshops and seminars for the elderly on road safety. The purpose of these activities is to "increase their awareness of the dangers arising from their unique characteristics in order to give them knowledge and tools to deal with the dangers awaiting them on the road, both as drivers and pedestrians."
