As a part of the international cleaning day and the Clean Beach Program, the Marine Pollution Station that is part of the Ministry of Environment, organised an underwater cleaning operation off the shore of the shopping mall in Eilat, joining them also was the Eilat municipality, the tourism patrol and Dudu the lifeguard.
The operation concentrated on cleaning the surface area of the landing bridges for swimmers and divers. Heavy steel debris found on the bottom of the sea caused not only an environmental hazard but a safety hazard as well that could cause injuries to swimmers and divers. Iron waste was recovered from the sea by divers and with a telescopic load, was removed from the water to a collection point on the beach. The total expenditure of iron waste recovered from the water was of several cubic meters.
