Tens of plastic bottles-full of cigarette butts were collected from the beaches of Eilat.  As part of this year's "Going for a Clean Beach" campaign, it was decided to focus on picking up the ubiquitous butts in addition to the usual maintenance of beach cleanliness.

Beach operators were recruited for the effort who, together with the City's Tourist Patrol, lifeguards, Red Sea Tourism Administration, and Nature Reserves and Parks Authority, declared that throughout the Succoth holiday there would be a butt-collecting campaign along all the beaches of Eilat, from Taba to Aqaba.  Tourists were recruited for the effort as well by announcements from the lifeguard towers. Tens of plastic bottles were being filled with more still coming, and each filled bottle earned its collector a ‘Clean Beach' t-shirt made up especially for the project.
