During the weekend of 18-20 September a series of activities was carried out at the Manta Dive Club in cooperation with the Eilat Field School.  The happening included lectures and dives as part of PADI's and the SPNI's worldwide Environmental Awareness event.  (More about the event here).  It concluded with a cleanup dive held on Saturday in the sea off the North Beach.  Some 40 divers volunteered for the cleanup, including 15 young divers from the ‘Red Sea Rangers' youth group.  In the space of an hour's diving, over one tonne of rubbish was collected from the sea bottom!!!  And according to the divers, "there's enough rubbish still sitting on the seabed for more events like this...".
