Eilat Mayor, Meir Itshak Halevy, sent an urgent letter to Defence Minister, Ehud Barak, urging him to act on protecting the people of the city, and wrote "Today illegal infiltrators, tomorrow terrorists sent by Islamic movements, I call on you,

urging you, not to abandon the people of Eilat"

Copy of the letter was also sent to the Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, Minister of Public Security, State Conptroller, the Chief of Staff, Chief of Police, Director of the Population and Immigration Authority, Southern Command, Southern District Commander of Police, the special division commander and acting commander of the Eilat police

Halevy  requested an urgent cabinet meeting be held on the phenomenon of infiltrators, and its impact on the city of Eilat.
