On 16 September the Eilati radio station ‘Voice of the Red Sea' held a donation drive for the ‘Latet [‘To Give'] in Eilat' charity. In addition to money, there were people who donated items for auction to benefit the charity. One particularly unique such item was a doll/sculpture made by the reknowned Eilati artist, Magda Watts, a survivor of the Holocaust who in fact became a survivor thanks to her incredible talent. Magda donated the ‘Rabbi Jonah' sculpture, valued at $1600, to ‘Latet'. The radio station auctioned the doll donated by Magda at a starting price of 1000 NIS - how much it actually raised we do not yet know, as the person authorised to tell us is out of reach for the moment. Magda Watts has had her dolls on permanent exhibition at places like the incoming passengers' lounge at the Eilat airport and the Caesar Hotel, and is now off to the USA in November for an exhibition of her unique art.

The staff of the Underwater Observatory was also very generous to Latet, giving it an automobile to ease the distribution of meals for the needy and other such tasks. The employees each donated a work day toward purchase of the vehicle, which is beautifully adorned with colourful fish and corals in an underwater scene. The Underwater Observatory matched the donation in order to enable purchase of the car. This donation was part of the company’s will and effort to be a partner and contributor to the community.
