The directorate of ‘Klalit' [‘General' Health Fund] has appointed Dr. Avi Goldberg to manage the Yoseftal Hospital in Eilat.  The appointment will take effect this month (September 2008).

Dr. Goldberg, age 44 with a wife and two children, is a specialist in family medicine and in medical administration.  He has recently returned from doing M.A. studies in public administration at Harvard University in Boston, USA, where he had gone on a Wexler Fund scholarship.  Before his trip to the USA, Dr. Goldberg worked in the head administration of Klalit, where he ran the State of Emergency department for several years, including getting Klalit geared up to give medical services during the second Lebanon war.  Before that he had been assistant director of Kaplan Hospital, where he gained much experience in managing hospitals.

Dr. Goldberg has served in several public roles in recent years, including as a member of the national trauma council, in the Health Ministry's national staff for handling epidemics, and in additional committees for states of emergency.

In 2005 he was a member of the Israeli delegation to the regional cooperation summit held with representatives from the Palestinian Authority, Jordan, and Egypt on the subject of preparedness for a flu pandemic.

As part of his job, Dr. Goldberg will also be in charge of managing the Klalit's clinics in Eilat, that give medical care to around 30,000 of Eilat's residents who are members of the Klalit health fund.

The General Director of Klalit, Eli Depps, said, "Klalit will continue maintaining the quality and professional level of the hospital, both in the quality of medicine and in the area of building and physical upgrading of the hospital, for the benefit and health of Eilat's residents."  He continued by thanking Prof. Yochanan Pheizer, who finished his job as hospital director, for his contribution to the hospital during the period of his appointment.
