A price comparison report indicated that the Mall Hayam shopping centre in Eilat is the best deal for the consumer. The report comparing prices of chains between the Mall Hayam mall in Eilat and malls in the central part of the country, which also checked for adherence to removal of VAT due to Eilat's Free Trade Zone status, determined that customers save hundreds of shekels at Mall Hayam.
The information is based on a report by the RM Monitoring and Survey firm that was ordered by the administration of Mall Hayam and submitted to its general manager, Israel Betito, a few days ago. The report also shows that the shops in the Mall are meticulous about removing the VAT from their merchandise, making it 15.5 percent cheaper than the prices in other Israeli cities.
"As a leading shopping mall in Israel, whose sales as measured at income per square metre is amongst the largest in Israel, it is important to us to make sure we are protecting consumer rights, the most important of which is the purchase of products at the most attractive price. Thus it is not a surprise that during August, 945,000 visitors were counted entering the mall. This, in spite of ten days in the month falling during the religious lead-up [‘bein hametzarim'] to the 9th of Av fast, when Eilat is not full to capacity."
