Tuesday 19 August: Shachar awoke this morning to a day without wind in Qingdao. As a result of the unsuitable weather, the tenth sail, that will be so vital for him, was postponed by the organisers to tomorrow (Wednesday). Shachar is still ranked fourth overall, and tomorrow's race could put him back at the top. He started the ninth race well, holding second position up to the nearly the fourth buoy, at which point he was overtaken by two competitors and finished the race in fourth place. Shachar now has 54 points. Nick Dempsey and Tom Ashley each have 46, and first place ranking is now held by Julien Bontemps with 45 points.
Monday 18 August update: As though yesterday's bad results left their mark on him, in the first of Monday's two races (eighth and ninth races of the Olympics) Shachar Tsoberi finished again this morning (Monday) in only 19th place. For the first time since the outset of the Games, he was ranked below the range for a medal. But happily, in the second race of the day Shachar rallied and came in sixth, placing him fourth now in the overall ranking and re-establishing his chances at a medal. He now holds 51 points, to the French Julien Bontemps' 42, British Nick Dempsey's 41, and New Zealander Tom Ashley's 38 ranking him first place.
Sunday 17 August: Eilat's Olympic contender, windsurfer Shachar Tsoberi, has fallen for the first time from his lead position in the ranking held over the first six races, and is now ranked third after the seventh race, held this morning. The eighth has been postponed to tomorrow due to bad weather. Today in Qingdao the skies were grey with heavy rain, poor visibility, and strong winds exceeding 20 knots, conditions that kept the helicopters that had been monitoring the sailing events from flying over the races today. Shachar started the race well enough, but ended it in 19th place. He appealed the result, saying that the Greek contender had collided with him, but the appeal was dismissed. Shachar now has 31 negative points, while first place ranking is now held by Tom Ashley from New Zealand with 25 points.
