It was a perfect evening on Thursday in Eilat for local artists to get together outside the newly renovated Art Museum to sell their crafts. For those of you who don't know where it is, it's located downtown in front of the big traffic circle on the east corner, before you reach them all.
There were Israeli, American and British artists. That's pretty impressive to have in such a small town. There were tables set up where individuals could lay out their pieces. There was one table with lovely stained glass framed with metal in all shapes and sizes. Some were wall ornaments while others could be worn as jewelry.
One table had hand crafted leather, such as shoes and moccassins. If you are in Eilat for a week or so, the footwear can be made to order. Next to the leather, there were wonderful paintings of landscapes and portraits. These two artists happen to be husband and wife.
Further down there was a wonderful array of ceramic work. From small ceramic seashell necklaces to big platters and bowls to hold fruit. All were bright and colorfully painted that would make it perfect for any home.
The only disappointing thing about the evening was that no one had heard that there was going to be a crafts sale. The turnout was small which was a complete shame. There really were some wonderful things for sale. The city and hotels should have a better way of informing the tourists and residents when events like this and others are to occur.
