A new, progressive branch of the municipal library opened this week in the Shachamon community centre (‘Matnas').  The library is modern and abounds with books, particularly children's and youth books and bestsellers.  In addition to its 80,000 books, it also includes modern new equipment such as computers to freely surf the internet, computer stations for children that have touch screens and sound systems, wireless internet, seating areas, and activities for preschoolers.

The library, built as part of the Shachamon Matnas, will offer services to all the residents of Eilat alongside the services offered by the main library branch, which include reference rooms and various databases along with tens of thousands of books for children, youth, and adults.

The cost of designing the library including the technological equipment and furnishings in the sum of ca. 450,000 NIS was funded the Jewish Agency and the Eilat Municipality.  Purchase of the books for around 200,000 was done gradually by the Matnas network.

The new library will operate Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 15:00 - 19:00 and on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00 - 13:00.  The opening hours of the central municipal library remain unchanged.

It is important to note that in the new branch also, there is no fee for borrowing books!
