| While most art galleries involve dressing nicely, not a hair out of place, strolling between exhibits, and a hushed, peaceful atmosphere, only the latter applied to Eilat's most recent art exhibition. Apparel was SCUBA gear or bring-your-own-snorkel, and this was definitely not the scene for anyone worried about their hairdo!

An exhibition of underwater photographs was held during the week of Succoth on the South Beach of Eilat. The exhibition, starting at 2 metres' depth, was open to the general public and geared for children and adults alike. Entrance was free of charge.

42 different underwater photographs that were taken in the Gulf of Eilat were featured in this unique display, that has earned the name "Treasures of the Sea 2". All of the photographs were taken by Noam Kortler, who has been a professional underwater photographer for the last nine years and has won several international prizes. Kortler is the owner and manager of a dive school in Eilat and is a qualified PADI instructor.

The initiative behind the exhibition is jointly that of the Red Sea Tourism Administration, the Eilat Municipality, and Noam Kortler. Following the success of last year's display during Succoth, Noam decided to produce new pictures. He approached the HP company, leading producers of wide-format digital printers, and HP got recruited into the project and printed the 42 photos being featured in the exhibition directly onto hard PVC boards. The photos were printed using a special printer the HP firm possesses.

The display, held at the Beach Bar on Eilat's south beach near the Coral Reserve, began at a depth of 2 metres and extended down to 6 metres, so that the visitors could snorkel above the photos to view them while qualified divers using SCUBA gear could wander amongst them. Or visitors of a different sort...

The exhibition started on Thursday 16 October at 10:00 through 16:00, at which time the pictures were removed and other ones shown the next day, 17 Oct., from 10:00 - 16:00. The exhibition ended on Saturday 18 Oct. at 16:00.

It has since come to Eilat Today's attention that this year's annual underwater photography competition, sponsored in the past by San Disk, will be sponsored this year by HP.
