The 22nd annual International Jazz Festival in Eilat is only a couple of weeks away. This year's production will feature more shows than any year previously. 25 ensembles, with around 150 musicians, will be appearing in 40 performances to be given over the four days of the festival. Twelve international ensembles, eleven Israeli ones, and two ensembles with both Israeli and foreign artists, will be appearing this year. Details (in English) about the ensembles and the programme can be seen at the festival's official website: http://www.redseajazzeilat.com/index2.php?id=72&lang=ENG .
Each night will feature ten performances, with starting hours from 20:00 - 1:10, in the four halls set up at the Port. In addition, there will be the traditional jam sessions starting from midnight, free of charge, which this year will be held at the Isrotel Yam Souf Hotel (former Ambassador Hotel) on the South Beach, closer to the Port, for guests' convenience.

On the last night of the festival a special tribute performance will be held for the festival’s artistic director, Dan Gottfried, who has announced that he is stepping down at the end of this year’s season after many years of service. The tribute concert will be performed by international artists along with Israeli friends and colleagues, as well as his musician sons Aviram and Yeron Gottfried. The new artistic director from 2009 will be Avishai Cohen, a bassist, composer, and ensemble leader who has gained great success all over the world. |
