GeeWhizzAcollective: "Onwards"

Something's happening on the Israeli music scene in recent years, with international language attempts by daring local artists gaining momentum, stronghold and legitimacy courtesy of Indie outlets, multi-niche venues and enthusiastic audience… on a scope that's wider than back in the days when major labels ruled the market.
Acollective is such a daring, multi-talent bunch.

GeeWhizzDan Billu: "New Haircut"

Rarely does an album produce bona-fide escapism…
Here I am, sitting comfortably on my couch, sipping tea and peeping through the window in search for a cloud but to no avail. The local winter isn't satisfying, to say the least.
'Blame the weather', some might suggest, yet, rarely has an Israeli album caught my full attention in recent years… that is, until this very shiny disc came along, re-shuffled the cards
and re-measured the audible experience.

Before we start, I'd like to address a recently-arose point made by certain readers: they claimed not to have understood what I was on about in these very columns.
Incidentally, none of them is an English speaker… were they missing the point, or did they lose the plot completely?

The First Story Telling Evening PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 13 November 2011 23:44

On Friday last 4th November, Eilat4all hosted the first story-telling evening. We asked our guests to come with both a delicacy to wet our appetites and a tale to tell.

The food was literally a feast with a large variety of interesting dishes. Ethan’s broccoli & peanut salad was a hit and Ahron's soup was a welcome to fend off the chill of the night Once we were seated with  great food and a few bottles of wine, we sat around the fire, and the story telling proceeded The first one to tell a tale was a newcomer to Eilat, Cynthia Sharona, who told us a short snippet of her first instance on arriving to Israel and then a story about her Siamese cat. Very funny! There then followed more stories, most were of personal stories, especially about aliya experiences, but there were a couple of fables –one of the "Red Hat" told beautifully by Eilat Tovi. The evening was a great success, everyone seemed to have enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to the next one.
I wish to thank all those who shared in our evening.

Epson underwater photo shoot - Fashion at it's best PDF Print E-mail

Underwater photographer Sharon Rainis is accomplishing a unique project. She's taking pictures of Israeli designer Erez Ovadia's wedding gowns underwater for an unusual composition unlike anything seen before. "It's fashion at its best, if you ask me," she says, "It's pure magic." Three models wear waterproof makeup and 10 dresses 75 feet underwater. She presented the idea to Ovadia because his dresses are light, free, and natural--perfect for this type of environment. The dresses were sacrificed for the purpose of this breathtaking photoshoot. "Very romantic, very light, and I hope its going to integrate with the atmosphere under the water." Every model was an experienced diver. The footage was taken in conjunction with experienced FashionTV cameramen hailing from outside of Israel who are also doing other underwater clips with Rainis in 3D. (fashiontv channel)

An old thesis claims that "Had Cleopatra's nose been shorter, the whole face of the ancient world would have been different". Ummmmm... "The whole face", they say. Geddit? Now, don't get me wrong, but that phrase has been exploited over the years, to the sarcastic extent that today, most of those who re-exploit / re-interpret it don't even know its original context, or who Cleopatra was.
