Tourist_market_1In the near future work will begin on the new (tourist) market place, to be located on "plot 40" close to the Sheraton Moriah hotel.

At the beginning of November the municipality advertised a tender for the development and establishment of the market. It is estimated that work will commence at the beginning of next year, 2010. The work will include infrastructure for water, electricity, roofing, garbage disposal facility, public toilets and positioning and design of the stalls.

The future market place is intended to end the problem of the illegal vendors and the disorder along the Eilat promenade, and to establish a site with a new and modern image, under close municipal supervision, that will be a focal point attracting tourists and enabling free passage along the promenade.

The new market place will be open with four rows of stalls, with entrances on both sides, and pergolas above giving shade to the whole site.It is intended that there will be 59 stalls in the market.

According to plans the market will be managed by the municipality, with close supervision, and with compliance in the running of the stalls it will be possible to maintain a high standard of the place and a uniformity in its appearance, and prevent the past situation of unsupervised disorder The establishment of the municipal market place will create a wide and open beachside promenade with a nearby shaded tourist market, that is both aesthetic and inviting.
