Yes, you might be surprised that this should be noteworthy.  However, with teachers' strikes so commonly delaying the start of the school year or stealing portions out of the middle of it, the fact that this year a threatened strike was averted and school started as scheduled on 1 September is good news.

Some 9,620 Eilati schoolchildren and kindergartners happily marched off to their first day of school.  All of the schools and kindergartens had festive ceremonies for the opening of the school year, and new first graders were welcomed into a happy and inviting atmosphere at the grammar schools.

As every year, the City spent the summer months doing repairs and upgrades to the city’s schools to make them safer and more pleasant for the students and teachers.  4.5 million shekels were invested into the improvements to the schools and kindergartens, from electrical rewiring to stairwells to new classrooms to cosmetic repairs.

Eilat Today wishes all of the children of Eilat a pleasant (dare I say fun?), educational, and safe school year.
