The schools in Eilat took full part in the Clean Beach in Eilat programme during 2007, which included educational activity to raise awareness about preserving the cleanliness of Eilat's beaches.  The activity is implemented by the Eilat District of the Nature and Parks Authority (NPA) and the Sea and Beach Division of the Eilat Environmental Protection Office.

This is the third year of the Clean Beach programme's activity, the objective of which is keeping the country's beaches free of litter, since 2/3 of the rubbish on Israel's beaches comes from the public.  The rubbish on Eilat's beaches is both an aesthetic eyesore and a public health hazard, which threatens the coral reef and the other creatures living in the Gulf of Eilat.

In the last school year the schools in Eilat underwent educational activity under the guidance of the NPA's educational and publicity centre instructors.  This included four meetings in which the pupils were exposed to questions such as environmental hazards in the Gulf of Eilat, the ecology of the coral reef, and the problem of rubbish on the beaches.  Some of them even went on a tour of the Marine Pollution Prevention Station and did hands-on activities of actually cleaning up beaches.  The pupils also engaged in finding solutions and collective thinking on changing environmental behaviour on the beaches.

The beaches are a natural treasure that must be preserved and kept clean.  Lack of public awareness is the most significant factor in the accumulation of rubbish on the beaches.  The educational activity in Eilat has set as its objective bringing the children closer to the subject and, through them, getting the community involved in helping take care of Eilat's beaches.
